Thank You to Our Veterans

Today is Veteran’s Day…..officially, since it’s after midnight.  Veteran’s Day is not only a day where you can take time off from work or school, but more importantly, it’s a day where we recognize those brave men and women who served our country….the United States of America.  These are men and women who put their needs and desires on hold to maintain the freedom and blessings we have today by serving their country.  They spent time away from their family and friends, some in conditions that were almost unbearable.  These are some of the strongest individuals I recognize in my life.

My dad is one of those individuals.  He served in Vietnam in the United States Marine Corps and I am proud to call him my dad.  When he returned to the U.S., he wasn’t welcomed home, but was instead met with disapproval, mean spirited comments, and an overall attitude of disgust.  I wish he was welcomed back with open arms, congratulations, and thank you’s in every direction he turned.

As a daughter of a Veteran, I make it my mission to thank each and every member of the military I encounter.  Sometimes, it is very emotional for me because I look at some of these young soldiers and think about my dad returning home in his uniform.  If only he had been shown the same sort of love, gratitude, and respect.  These men and women who serve our country endure a lot physically and emotionally and I personally don’t think that one day a year is enough for them.

So, please make it your mission to greet each member of the military you encounter with a smile and thank each for his or her service.  If you encounter an individual wearing any sort of apparel indicating he or she is a Vietnam Veteran, simply say, “Welcome Home.”  It will mean the world to that individual. You may also donate military care packages which will be really helpful to active duty personnel.

Happy Veteran’s Day to everyone…..and thank you to those who have served our country!  May God bless you and your families!

That makes me so sad. My husband is in the Utah Army National Guard and I couldn’t imagine him not being welcomed home after his deployment. I am grateful for your dad too!

What a beautiful tribute to your father and all the other men and woman who serve our country past, present, and future!

I agree with Noelle-Please thank your father for me and give him a big hug! He may have not been met with appreciation when he came home, but it’s never to late to show him we all appreciate what he did for us now 🙂

My husband served in the Gulf War, and my son is in the military now. Your post is so appreciated. I feel like you do, and really do what I can to show my appreciation during the holiday season (and at other times if I am able).
