Texting Language
I never texted until recently. I blame it on having the Droid. It was so awesome to have the Internet right there in my hand on my phone. However, when I moved to California, I couldn’t afford to keep it. So the next best thing was the ability to text. I LOVE it!
Over the past few months, I’ve learned different texting abbreviations. Sometimes I find myself texting to them friends and having the friends ask what the letters stand for. So, here is a list of some of the texting jargon I’ve learned. Feel free to add to the list in the comment section. 🙂
kwim – know what I mean
brb – be right back
lol – laugh out loud
lmao – laugh my a$$ off
gtg – got to go
np – no problem
omg – oh my gosh
ttyl – talk to you later
jk – just kidding
xoxoxo – hugs and kisses
🙂 – smile
😀 – big smile
:* – kiss (the asterisk appears in the middle of the colon on the phone)
🙁 – sad face
😛 – sticking tongue out
Ha! Yes, texting is quite addicting! I never really use texting jargon unless I really have to-I’m probably the ONLY person you will see who texts grammatically correct complete sentences. LOL
Here are a few that I’m going to add:
omw – on my way
atm – at the moment
ily – I love you
h/o – hold on
w/o – without
xD – my smily face
O.o – weird face
O.O – surprised face
I just learned what one meant the other day: smh – shaking my head
I don’t think I heardly ever talk on the phone anymore, I text all the time. Sometimes I am on the computer, watching TV and texting all at the same time. Talk about multi-tasking. HaHa
Thanks! I’m not very savvy on texting, so this helps! It took me forever to learn what LOL meant! LOL!
