We recently had the opportunity to review the Moon Dough Barnyard Play Set as part of a campaign through Team Mom.  Moon Dough (for children ages 2-4) is a new molding dough that is soft and marshmallow-like and never dries out, so you can use it again and again.  The moon dough is hypo-allergenic and wheat-free.  You can find Moon Dough products online and in stores, including Toys “R” Us, Target, Wal-Mart, Kmart, Amazon.com, A.C. Moore, Michaels, and eToys.  The Moon Dough Barnyard Play Set retails for $19.99.

With the Moon Dough Barnyard, you can bring all the fun of the farm right into your own home.  Bale some Hay, put it in the barn silo, and turn the crank to make fun 3D Moon Dough animals.  Create fences, pastures, and more.  Package includes: (1) Magic molding barnyard, fence and hay bale molds; (2) Themed play mat; (3) Four unique animal moulds – cow, pig, sheep, and horse; and (4) Three colors of Moon Dough.

Also available is the Moon Dough Pizza Shop, Magical Molding Doghouse, Moon Dough Burger Shop, and Moon Dough Refill Packs.

MY THOUGHTS

I think the concept of Moon Dough is a good one and my kids had a blast with the Magical Molding Barnyard, but I really didn’t care for the Moon Dough itself.  I didn’t like the consistency of the Moon Dough.  It was very crumbly and hard to work with, even after kneading it together as the instructions tell you to do.  Plus, it was VERY messy.  The crumbs ended up on the floor, chairs, everywhere.  The boys became frustrated when the shaped animals easily fell apart.  I would definitely be willing to try out Moon Dough again if it were a different consistency and more easy to work with (and clean up after).

I received a sample from Moon Dough as part of a campaign through Team Mom to facilitate this review.  All opinions expressed in this post are 100% mine.

My daughter received this as a gift for her 4th birthday- It would be a great product however, the animals crumble, thus frustrating the child. The barn does not adhere (connec tto) the platform, properly. My daughter got her finger caught in the molding shuttle as she tried to hang on to the barn, while cranking the crank! The dough gets stuck in the shaft! The animals come out misfigured…”the horse does not have eyes!”…and further more, the haybale and the fence molds are hard enough for an adult to loosen…let alone a new 4 year old…she could not do it, thus…more needless frustration…to the point, she threw the molds! WE had to give up 2x in 1 day!
