“Family Matters: The Complete First Season” DVD Review
I remember watching “Family Matters” every Friday night on TGIF! Steve Urkel always made me laugh and I just loved the show in general! I was excited to have the opportunity to review “Family Matters: The Complete First Season
The DVD set features 22 episodes in a three-disc Collector’s Set! You’ll laugh as you watch the fun adventures and challenges of the Winslow family – a multi-generational, middle-class suburban Chicago family. The show features the at-home adventures of Harriette Winslow (JoMarie Payton-France), the sarcastic elevator operator who was initially featured on the enormously successful Perfect Strangers. Also featured are Harriette’s husband Carl (Reginald VelJohnson), a Chicago police sergeant and their three kids; rebellious son Eddie (Darius McCrary); intelligent daughter Laura (Kellie Shangyne Williams) and youngest child Judy (Jaimee Foxworth/Valerie Jones). In addition, the Winslows open their home to Carl’s streetwise mother, Estelle – known as Mother Winslow (Rosetta LeNoire) – as well as Harriette’s sister Rachel (Telma Hopkins) and her son Richie (Joseph Julius Wright).
During the first season, the Winslows are introduced to the show’s breakout star, geeky next door neighbor, Steve Urkel (White). Urkel, the ultimate nerd, develops a big crush on the Winslow’s daughter Laura. He’s known for his oversized spectacles, high-water pants, suspenders, and high-pitched, screechy voice. In spite of his shortcomings, Urkel possesses bold self confidence and proves to be irresistibly funny.
The show originally aired in 1989, as part of ABC-TV’s Friday night TGIF lineup. It ended in 1998 after the series moved to CBS-TV. The series ran for nine successful season and was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1996. It’s a fun show to watch! Check it out today!
MY THOUGHTS
I loved “Family Matters” when I was younger and still love it! I can’t wait to see more of the seasons on DVD. My favorite characters are Steve Urkel and Laura Winslow. My boys enjoy watching the show with me as well. It’s a fun family comedy that you can enjoy with your family!

I wish they made more family friendly shows like this, but the networks are too into reality shows, sex, or medical drama’s. Where are the new shows for the kids that are clean and decent?

I remember watching this when I was younger and being really excited when ABC Family put it back on the air years later-Like Full House and The Facts of Life, this is a good, wholesome family show that families could come together and watch happily back then.
Now and days, the shows they put out there on the airways are pretty much crap. I’m seriously ASHAMED of television these days >.<
