“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” DVD Review

On March 30th, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (Single-Disc Version)” on DVD and Blu-ray!  I watched it with my boys and we LOVED it!  I think that it was just as good as the first one.  Sometimes sequels fall short, but I don’t think that “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” fell short, but was even more enjoyable than the first one.  The Chipettes really complimented the already awesome Chipmunks!  My boys have already watched it a bunch of times and I’m sure it will be watched several more times!

“Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” is a sequel to the 2007 hit, “Alvin and the Chipmunks.”  The movie includes the beloved singing chipmunk sensations – Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.  The Squeakquel also introduces the amazing Chipettes – Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor!  There is over an hour of music on this new DVD, including Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” and other hit songs!

In “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” a concert mishap lands Dave in the hospital and the Chipmunks decide to take a break from being superstars. They enroll in school so they can fit in with kids their age, but soon find competition with the Chipettes – a beautiful, talented trio of chipmunks discovered by Ian, the boys’ evil ex-manager!

From director Betty Thomas (Dr. Dolittle), the heartwarming film stars Golden GlobeÒ nominee* Jason Lee (“My Name Is Earl”), Emmy AwardÒ winner** David Cross (“Arrested Development”) and Zachary Levi (“Chuck”), and features vocal talent from franchise veterans Justin Long (He’s Just Not That Into You), Matthew Gray Gubler (500 Days of Summer) and actor-pop heartthrob Jesse McCartney (Alvin and the Chipmunks). Newcomers Christina Applegate (“Samantha Who”), Anna Faris (The House Bunny) and Amy Poehler (“Saturday Night Live”) lend their voices to the musically talented Chipettes as Brittany, Jeanette and Eleanor, respectively.

OUR THOUGHTS

We really enjoyed watching “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” as a family.  My boys really enjoyed it and I enjoyed it as well.  I would classify it as a family-friendly movie to be enjoyed by all who watch it.  I found myself bopping to different musical scenes throughout the movie.  Thank you 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment!  I hope there will be another “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie!
