We recently made pancakes using our Stainless Steel Pans. Before pouring the pancake mix on the pan, we sprayed it with oil. The oil, unfortunately, left behind a sticky and yucky residue. I tried soaking it, but no luck. My husband had the idea to use Bar Keeper’s Friend. See what happened!

That is awesome! I have a pan in the sink right now with burnt oil in it, I told my husband last night I might have to throw it out! Now I don’t. Thanks again for posting this!

That was oddly entertaining–watching a man scrub a pan!! I’m a big fan of Bar Keepers Friend. I have three containers of it under my kitchen sink right now–don’t want to run out!

When I saw this post I was very interested as about a week ago I made a calzone. Like when I make pizza I sprayed my whole cookie sheet with oil spray except I folded the dough on the filling and put it in the oven. Well, half of my cookie sheet had this stuborn yellow mess on it. I’ve scoured and scoured this sucker with steal wool pads and I finally brought out the Comet this morning. It helped but I still had to scour. Next time I just might try the bar keepers friend. Thanks for the tip and BTW your hubby seems like a keeper himself, mine doesn’t even go near the sink except to deposit dirty dishes.

I wonder if this would work on very old oil too? I have build up on my muffin pans and was thinking about throwing them out and getting new ones……… Would rather spend that money on something else.

Okay, ummm what? What the heck is Barkeeper’s Friend? Never heard of it.

Oh and the only way that pots and pans in this house are that shiny is if they just arrived here from the store. 🙂

  7. Again, I sound like I’m just trying to be your “yes-man, er woman”, but my hubby SWEARS by Bar Keepers Friend. He keeps two of them in the house: one under the kitchen sink and one under the bathroom sink (HIS bathroom sink). He has made my pans look like brand new no matter WHAT I have destroyed in them. He does all the dishes because as I have said before, he is THE most wonderful man in the world. 🙂
    (No offense, George!)

Oh WOW! I really should get one of this thing instead of tossing those pans away! Guess I ‘m googling where to buy now.

  9. I totally read this because I hate the greasy grimy feel on some of our pots and pans.

Barkeeper’s Friend has been around for years and years , primarily to keep glasses and stainless bar equipment looking good. I found out about it when I first tended bar in the 1960’s. It was never available to the general public back then…the chemical make-up was too strong then. I love the stuff and keep 2 in the house and one in the garage. I must say though that I also use Greased Lightning on hard to remove grease stains and Goo Gone on some very sticky messes to very good effect with not much scubbing at all.

Thank you for showing the video on how this actually works. I just bought a new set of stainless steel pots and pans and when I was out of town one of my sons friends fried something in it and it left that grimey yellowish film in the pan. I found it several days latter when I got home. I’ve tried everything and was about to toss the pan when I came across your website, wow! To actually show it working is proof enough for me to go out and get some “Barkeepers Friend” thank you.

That is pretty amazing! I’ve had this same problem – so frustrating! I’ve tried Comet, but it didn’t seem to really help much, so I went and got some Bar Keeper’s friend to try and it worked ! Thanks so much!!!

Awesome tip! It’s so frustrating to pull out a pan with oil stains on it. Thanks to you and your hubby I now know what to do about it! Thanks bunches. 🙂
