I was really looking forward to watching Whip Iton DVD.  I had seen the preview on another movie and had it on my list of movies to watch.  I was even more excited when I learned that one of my favorite actresses, Drew Barrymore, was directing and producing it.  Plus, she acted in the movie as well!  I was really impressed with the movie and am so glad I own it now.  Ellen Page did an amazing job, once again, in her role as Bliss (aka Babe Ruthless).  Drew Barrymore was hilarious in her character as Smashley Simpson.  I loved the theme behind the movie – tough girls on 4 wheels – whipping it.  It was a really good movie!  My husband watched it with me and really liked it as well.  Kudos to Drew Barrymore for her Directorial Debut and to Ellen Chase for her amazing acting skills!  Check out “Whip It” on DVD today.

“Whip It” was released on DVD and Blu-ray on January 26th, 2010 by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.  In the movie, a rebellious teenager discovers a love for the roller derby sport and tries out for one of the teams.  To her surprise, she makes it on to the team!  She soon realizes her passion and talent for roller skating on eight wheels, as well as the friends she makes and the happiness she finds in life.  Ellen Page (Juno) scores huge laughs as Bliss Cavendar, a small-town teenager with a big dream; to find her own path in the world.  Tired of following in her family’s footsteps of compliance and conformity, Bliss discovers a way to put her life on the fast track…literally.  She lands a spot on a rough-and-tumble roller derby team and becomes “Babe Ruthless,” the hottest thing on eight wheels.  Co-starring Golden Globe nominee Drew Barrymore (Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle) in her feature film directorial debut, Oscar winner Marcia GayHarden (Mystic River), Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear), Daniel Stern (City Slickers), and late night show host Jimmy Fallon (Fever Pitch).  There are also appearances by real life derby girls Rachel Piplica and Kristen Adolfi, better known as Iron Maiven and Krissy Krash of the Los Angeles Derby Dolls.

Filled with hip checks and bloody noses, the Whip ItBlu-ray Disc and DVD feature deleted scenes, an alternate opening and extended scenes.  Whip It will be available on Blu-ray Disc with Digital Copy for the suggested retail price of $39.99 U.S. / $49.99 Canada and on DVD for $29.98 U.S. / $43.48 Canada.

I watched Whip It last night no less. I have to admit, I loved it. We still have Rollergardens here in my city with rollergirls. I used to love watching the games, though I haven’t been in a while. That movie really made me wanna get into it all over again. I forgot how much fun the Roller Derby can be.
