Conference Calls with Celebrities
There are so many things I have come to love through The Mommy-Files. I’ve come to love my readers, the personal posts I write, the companies I work with, the products I review, the travel opportunities, and the conference calls. I have had two conference calls with celebrities thus far.
I remember when I lived in Los Angeles and my family took me to a Kings Hockey Game (I’m a huge hockey fan, especially at a live game) and I received the signature from Wayne Gretzky. Granted, he was rude and it wasn’t my ideal first encounter celebrity, but Luc Robitaille mended my hard feelings towards the rich and famous.
Through The Mommy-Files, I have had the opportunity to participate in 2 different conference calls with 2 amazing actresses, who are also mothers. My first conference call was with Jenna Elfman (star of “Dharma and Greg” and “Accidentally on Purpose”) and Jennie Garth (star of “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Garden Party”). Jenna Elfman is a riot and I’m sure totally fun to hang out with in person. She’s funny and knows what she believes in. I’m sure she is a fabulous wife and mother and I would LOVE to meet her in person some day! Jennie Garth is so sweet and down-to-earth. Every time I think of her, I think of 90210, so it’s amazing to hear her talk about motherhood, the challenges we as mothers face in feeding our families, and fresh ideas!
Through these conference calls, I have come to learn that these women are just like you and I. They face similar challenges and are trying to keep their families healthy and strong – just like you and I. What famous celebrities have you met and what were they like? Were they what you expected or different?

My first celebrity encounter was with Florence Henderson. My younger sister and I were in elementary school and loved “The Brady Bunch,” so my parents took us to see Florence Henderson in the play, “Annie Get Your Gun.” After the play, Florence was signing autographs in the lobby, so we stood in line to have her sign our program. She was very nice. However, she mentioned how pretty my sister was and didn’t compliment me! Needless to say, I was totally crushed.
In 1971 I had run away from home and lived at Earth Peoples Park in Vermont, this is where I had met Larry (my husband now) the year before. This was a 600 acre piece of land in Vermont on the Canadian border where anyone could come and live on the land. A group of people called the “Hog Farm” had collected donations at Woodstock to put a down payment on the land.
In ’71 they were having a big concert there in Vermont to raise money to pay the taxes on the land. Richie Havens had played at Woodstock and had heard about Earth Peoples Park so he came and played when he heard tax money was being raised and stayed at Larrys house . Larry had built one of the few actual houses on the land, most people lived in teepi’s or camped for the summer and left in the winter. Rich was very nice and after he played on stage, we all sat up back at the house, and sang most of the night.
Then in 1976 I was a waitress at a restaurant in Norfolk Va. one of my regulars worked with the March of Dimes telethon and brought Soupy Sales in to have dinner. Soupy was appearing on our local PBS station for the telethon, I waited on them and he shamelessly flirted with me the whole evening. They left a great tip and Soupy handed me a card as they were leaving…on the back was scribbled his hotel name and room number. I DID NOT go…..R.I.P Soupy, you old dog.
I didn’t realize you were a hockey fan! We live in LA and are huge Kings fans. Luc really is awesome, isn’t he? Having had the opportunity to meet a lot of players over the years at various events, the arrogant ones seem to be the exception rather than the rule – thank goodness!
That’s incredible! The internet is such an amazing thing-You can experience so many things that would be beyond your reach in ‘real life’.
I don’t think I have met or had any run ins so far in my 20 years. So sad. Lol
What a couple of fabulous women to get to “meet”, I really like both of them.
I met Robert DeNiro once when he was filming a movie in the town where I lived and worked. The character in the movie he was filming needed glasses and I worked for an optomotrist, so DeNiro came in for a fitting for the glasses (they needed to be bifocals). I walked out of the ladies room, right into him as he was coming down the hallway ~ he is kind-of short! 🙂
Then my hubby won me a trip to LA 10 years ago to go to the Soap Opera Awards and I was followed around by a camera crew for a segment on Soap Net. I got to get all dressed up and walk the red carpet to the show and meet several soap stars there and at the Beverly Hilton where I was staying and so were they. It was really cool.
