MomologieI love receiving newsletter with information I can actually use in my life – such as how to entertain friends and family, recipes, family activities, and more.  I recently signed up for a newsletter called “Momologie.”  “Momologie” was founded by former editors of “Martha Stewart Living” – Gia Russo and Michele Adams.  These are widely published authorities on the topics of everyday living and lifestyle advice for women.  The 2 women also produce their own line of MiGi branded products for home and entertaining.

With “Momologie,” you’ll find a mix of heirloom and contemporary pieces, you’ll learn how to create a beautifully personal tablesetting for your next holiday gathering.  The ideas are inspired by a modern take on traditional folf motifs.  The look is a mix of cross-generational influences, and as generations of a family gather, it seems like an appropriate theme for your Thanksgiving feast.  The result is whimsical and light with rich colors enhanced by touches of pewter and silver.

Start with an unexpected choice of burlap fabric for your tablecloth. We then layer the burlap with a lovely velvet or silk in a deep rust or persimmon color to complement the pattern of the unique dinnerware. The folk-inspired design of these dinner plates anchors the look of table.  Unfinished, light wood pieces such as this teak flatware and wood serving pedestal are casually elegant.  Pewter chargers and stemware or glasses with touches of silver add a touch of formality and shimmer to the table, perfect for the occasion.

Fun for the Kid’s Table

Purchase an inexpensive kid-sized table and set a miniature version of the grown-up table with butcher paper instead of burlap so the kids can draw on the table and get creative with marking their spot.  Or, skip a separate table altogether. Let kids make place cards and decide where everyone will sit at the big table so they feel included in the planning.  Be sure to have simple activities on-hand such as crayons and coloring pages or gluesticks and embellishments such as googly eyes, feathers and foam shapes to stick on gourds and pumpkins from your centerpiece.  Or, have the kids create their own centerpiece with this tree kit, designed to interlock, creating a tabletop forest.  Autumn-themed GelGems stick to windows and remove easily.  Let the kids decorate the windows for your gathering.  Kids also can make a “thankfulness wreath” using pre-cut leaves on which they write things they are grateful for and then glue onto a ring to create a centerpiece.
