Earlier in the summer, I had the opportunity to review Seventh Generation Cleaning Products. I have to be honest with you – I LOVE them!!! My husband also loves them! We were both very impressed by how well they clean and how natural they are. I used to hate cleaning the bathroom because I couldn’t stand the smell of the fumes from other cleaners. However, I actually enjoy cleaning with Seventh Generation products because they leave my bathroom and other household surfaces clean and smelling good!

Seventh Generation is excited to be partnering with Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families (SCHF), a nationwide coalition of groups that support stronger standards on toxic chemicals, to influence Congress to overhaul the nation’s outdated chemical regulatory law, the Toxic Substances Control Act, or TCSA.  This is known as the Million Baby Crawl Campaign!  The Million Baby Crawl Campaign Calls for Stronger Federal Standards on Toxic Chemicals and Support from New and Expecting Parents.

In the 33 years since Congress passed this act, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has required testing on just 200 of the more than 80,000 chemical compounds developed for products used in the home.  Under the current law, the EPA does not have the authority to demand the information it needs to evaluate a chemical’s risk, and neither manufacturers nor the EPA are required to prove a chemical’s safety as a condition of use.

The Kids Safe Chemicals Act was created by Senators Frank R. Lautenberg (New Jersey) and Barbara Boxer (California) and Representatives Hilda Solis (United States Secretary of Labor) and Henry Waxman (California), and will require that chemical manufacturers conduct safety testing before a chemical is used in products, and that this information is publicly available.

To help gain awareness and support for the Kids Safe Chemical Act, Seventh Generation, in partnership with Erin Brockovich and SCHF have launched the Million Baby Crawl (www.MillionBabyCrawl.com), a grassroots initiative dedicated to educating and empowering new and expectant parents to lobby for much-needed legislative reform and stronger standards on toxic chemicals. The Million Baby Crawl will help to present this bill to Washington by collecting signatures from Americans who support stronger standards on toxic chemicals.

“We assume our homes are safe havens, but the fact is that the vast majority of the chemical compounds found in the products we use there have never been tested. And in most cases manufacturers don’t even have to tell us on product labels what those toxins are. This is a dangerous recipe for harm that virtually every family is exposed to every day,” said Seventh Generation co-founder and Chief Inspired Protagonist, Jeffrey Hollender. “We’re on a mission to come together and change that once and for all.”

Beginning today, Seventh Generation is inviting parents to log on to www.MillionBabyCrawl.com to learn more about the Kids Safe Chemical Act and support the campaign by listing their name, email address and zip code. These names will be collected and presented in Washington in January as a symbol of the change that American parents want to see happen with toxic chemicals.

I learned this: Since 1976, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has required safety testing on only 200 of the more than 80,000 chemicals on the market.

  2. Carol says:

I learned this: The federal law that should protect us from health-harming chemicals just doesn’t work. Since 1976, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has required safety testing on only 200 of the more than 80,000 chemicals on the market. We need a stronger chemical law to keep our families safe and healthy.

Comment on kitchen tips : aluminum foil. Gals and guys you’ve got to watch this! I’ve been cooking for about 25 plus years for my family and never knew this tip. Have you ever fumbled the plastic wrap or aluminum wrap and have it come flying out of the box and have it roll across the kitchen? Admit it, we’ve all done it. Apparently on the side of the box you can push in “gripers” to hold the roll in. Well you can teach old dogs new tricks.
