I received an email from a company I work with about a sight seeking Mom Ambassadors for the “Keep Your Mind on the Wheel” Pledge.  I really admire what this site is doing!

When we lived in California, I knew a woman at our church who lost 2 of their children in a car accident.  One of the children had come out of his seat belt and the mom was distracted trying to get him back in the seat while driving.  That was the last thing she remembered.  She woke up in a hospital bed with the news that 2 of her children had died in the accident.  What a terrible thing to live with!  I do not ever want that to happen to me!

I proudly take the Pledge to “Keep My Mind on the Wheel!”  I often think while driving in the car, is giving my 1 year old his sippy cup that fell on the floor worth risking the lives of my family?  Or is opening the granola bar for my 3 year old while driving worth risking the lives of my family?  Definitely NOT!!!  I would rather deal with crying children than injured or dead children.

Our Pledge

Driving while distracted can be more dangerous than driving drunk. We ask for laws to make it illegal to text and drive.

As moms, we want safer roads.

We know the time has come for us all to recognize the risks of distracted driving, to be more responsible and to mind the wheel.

Here is what we pledge:

We pledge to model safe behavior when we drive.

We pledge to set firm house rules on texting and phoning while driving.

We pledge to help spread the word on the dangers of distracted driving.

Here is what we ask for:

We ask for the dangers of distracted driving to be included in drivers’ education classes.

We ask for innovations in technology to help solve the problem.

We ask for enforcement of existing distracted driving laws and consequences when the laws are broken.By working together we will make everyone safer.

I take that pledge. I seriously have a fear of car accidents and I personally will do all I can to prevent it. My girls all the time are asking me to look at them in the car etc. I just tell them mommy can’t she is driving. I get some whines, moans, cries, etc. But it is worth saving their lives.

This is a great pledge!!! I think people are stupid to text and drive!! I mean seriously is texting that important enough in someone’s life to do it while driving?!!

  3. I took the pledge. Such an important issue.

That’s an amazing cause that I support fully!
I don’t understand why people drive and text or talk on the phone when they know that it’s dangerous and it distracts-Even the best driver is distracted.
I’m going to take the pledge right now!
