Being Sick is No Fun!!

I remember being sick when I was a kid.  My mom or stepmom would bring me hot chicken noodle soup, give me medicine, make me Jell-O, tuck me in bed, take my temperature, feel my forehead, and let me rest with peace and quiet.  Well….that was when I was a kid!

On Wednesday, my allergies started to kick up…or so I thought.  I was sneezing and had a runny nose (lots of fun right?).  Then it got worse on Thursday.  I was achey and felt like my head was stuffed with cotton (if that makes any sense).  I felt TERRIBLE!  However, lunches still had to be made, boys still had to be dressed, arguments between kids still had to be broken up.

Why is it that when you feel sick, your kids SEEM to make more noise, have more fights, scream more, and ask for more snacks??  Seriously?  And of course, the night I was sick was the night my 1 year old would not stay asleep for any lengthy amount of time.

Thank goodness I am feeling much better now.  Being sick is no fun at all!!  Especially when you are a mom with little kids!

  1. I have noticed when us as moms get sick we deal with it, and take care of everyone still. When my hubby gets sick–he is such a baby–the end of the world. NEEDS me all the time 🙂 Good thing us moms are so STRONG!! I am glad you are feeling better.

My mom was big into “milk toast’. I swear that was the nastiest stuff on the planet! If I wasn’t already pukin..milk toast would get me running for the bathroom.

That is no fun at all. And my kids do the same thing to me when I’m sick. Glad you’re starting to feel better though!

Glad you’re feeling better!! I hate being sick….uhhh and my job at a School as an Additional Adult Assistant doesn’t offer benefits. So, when I get sick, I pay out of pocket every month for my health insurance. Sick pay is not covered. No benefits at all.

When I was married, it seemed liked the world stopped and had to wait on my husband when he was sick. They can be such babies. No matter how sick I was, I had to keep going. When I got very sick, my husband decided that he couldn’t take it and left for greener pastures. I really hate being sick, especially when there is nothing that I can do about it but take pain pills.

My oldest son has severe allergies, he use to get the shots but they stopped working and he has tried prescription under the sun and still no relief. I know what you mean about when you are sick and the children turn into crazy people. Glad you are feeling better!

I have found that God’s timing really is perfect. Whenever I’ve been sick-a-bed (as my grandma from Maine would put it), it’s been on a week-end when my husband is home to watch over our 3 kids.

  9. Oh no sweets, glad you feel better! 😉 They sense weakness and when we’re sick we’re weaker … LOL 😉

  10. So glad you are feeling better… I know what you mean about mommies being sick and the kids getting worse when you are… I know that it just seems that way as you indicated. And yes dads are the biggest babies when they are sick… my Hubs is the worst when he is sick, but he is the FIRST to admit it, he knows he is a bear.

That is me today except no allergies and runny nose-Mine is actually due to a combination of multiple things.
    Ugh.

Being sick is awful when you are a mom and have kids……….& perhaps a hubby! I, too remember laying in bed or on the couch, wtih soup etc.; not even thinking about my mother and that she NEVER stopped to be sick.

I think we tend to look at taking care of ourselves as being a wee biti selfish and its just not. My mom passed away last month at the age of 68. She had alzheimers but we discovered she had stage 4 bowel cancer on Sept 30th …………she had never mentioned any pain or anything……….she passed on Oct 17th.

We need to stop, breathe and take care of ourselves.

I totally agree! Where’ s the person that’s supposed to take over our job so we can sleep?! A couple weeks ago I was home alone with the girls (husband out of town)–I was sick and then two of my girls got sick! Ugh… Guess who gets to take care of everyone? Even though I feel just as bad! Definitely a bummer.

I’m glad you’re feeling better. Maybe the turkey will help them sleep around Thanksgiving time and you can catch a few make-up zzzz’s then.
