More and more people are doing “Staycations” rather than spending the money to travel some place far away (which ends up causing them to spend money on transportation, hotels, food, and activities). I decided to focus on some local attractions for our Staycation ideas in Seattle, Washington! These are kid-friendly activities, making it that much easier to plan your Staycation (or vacation if you want to visit Seattle, Washington).
I love going to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle, Washington with my boys! I love that it is big (but not too big) and has amazing animals to watch and observe. After writing this post, there are a few things I learned about the Woodland Park Zoo that I didn’t know before. The Woodland Park Zoo “encompasses 92 acres and features more than 1,090 individual animals representing nearly 300 species. The grounds are divided into what are known as bioclimatic zones, the unique habitats around the world, from tropical rain forests to the frigid climes of the Far North.” I knew that there were different areas in the park but I had no idea that there were that many animals! I also learned that Woodland Park Zoo is one of the oldest zoos on the West Coast.
I love the newly designed Penguin Exhibit and of course the Flamingos (they are beautiful but be prepared because they can smell a little strong at times). My boys love to see the African Savannah – filled with Zebras, Giraffes, Gazelles, and more! We always make a point to stop by the Jaguar and the Hippo Pool.
If it’s too hot or raining outside, you can step indoors and give your kids a chance to explore the Zoomazium. Grab a bite to eat or sit down with your picnic in one of their big grassy areas or at one of their eating stations (cafeteria or walk-up restaurants).
Before you leave be sure to take a ride on the Historic Carousel and visit the Gift Shop to pick up a souvenir for the kids! You’ll have a blast at the Woodland Park Zoo!

Woodland Park Zoo has generously offered to give away a family package including 2 adult Admissions, 2 Child Admissions, and 2 tokens for the Historical Carousel to one lucky reader on The Mommy-Files!!! The Admissions expire 12/31/09.
