Anatomy According to a 5 Year Old
My 5 year old has recently discovered that boys and girls and mommies and daddies have different body parts. Growing up, my parents had nicknames for these parts (a girl had a Poochie – still can’t get past this one, especially when they came out with a dog named that – and a boy had a Pee Pee – I could handle that one). Eventually I learned the true names, but even to this day I blush when the words come out of my mouth.
My husband taught our boys that they have a Penis. They understand that.
Yesterday, I was getting undressed and ready for my shower (and yes, I still undress and shower in front of my kids). My 5 year old walked in and asked me, “Where is your Penis?” I explained to him that mommies don’t have those, only boys and daddies do.
The next day, my husband was out mowing the lawn and our 5 year old went up to him and told him that “Mommy doesn’t have a penis.” I’m sure if our neighbors were listening, they were curious as to how my husband would respond. My husband stood back for a second and told him he was right. He said that mommies and girls have vaginas.
After stating this fact, my 5 year old said “Mommies have agina!” So now, he thinks it’s called an “agina.” I’ll leave it be for a while (blush).
I found this clip and thought it fit in well with this topic.
