The Doctor’s Office Again?

Growing up, I had my fair share of ear infections, and also my share of allergic reactions to different medicines. Well, it seems my 11 month old is following in my footsteps.

This morning, he woke up and I brought him out to the front room to change his diaper when I found this!

I cringe every time I look at these pictures. When I saw them at first, a feeling of panic swept over me, but I kept calm and tried to figure out what might be the cause. I googled images of medication allergic reactions. I saw similar pictures to these. I immediately called the doctor and was able to grab an appointment early this morning.

Needless to say, I went in sweats (since my jeans were in the washer – of course) and my makeup and hair were as decent as I could get them (aka concealer and primping my hair a little bit). It didn’t matter though….I needed to get my little guy checked out and have some reassurance he would be okay.

By the time we got to the doctor’s office, he was breaking out on his face and neck. It was definitely an allergic reaction to the medication! The doctor said it was “an impressive display of hives.”

She prescribed Benadryl – 1 teaspoon for 3 or 4 times for one day and no ear infection medicine until our next checkup (when they will determine if his ear infection has cleared up on its own).

***Note to moms – The reason I’m posting this is because I have never dealt with an allergic reaction to medicine with my kids before and want to prepare those who haven’t dealt with it before either.

***Note #2 – Always have Benadryl on hand in case something like this happens.

***As bad as the pictures looks, he was still happy and crawling around like nothing was wrong. So it doesn’t appear he was in pain (as bad as they look).
