At Mama’s Losin It, Mama Kat has a weekly Writer’s Workshop. This will be my 3rd week writing with her topics in mind. It’s a lot of fun to read what other people write and to write a little bit about myself (yes, something other than product reviews and giveaways).

This week, the topics were:

1.) Discuss an intense game of Pictionary that you spent most of Saturday night arguing with your family about, only to log in to your email account two days later to find 35 emails between said family regarding aformentioned game and rules.

2.) Tell about a time you hurt somebody that still bothers you to this day.

3.) The one that got away….spill it.

4.) What inspired you? Write about a time when you were impassioned to write.

5.) What happened in the last year? Write about something you can do now that you couldn’t do a year ago.

6.) Write about the event that was the end of your childhood

I’ve decided to write about topic #6 – the event that was the end of your childhood.

I have to say that the event that ended my childhood was the day I officially became a “WOMAN” – the day I got the big “P.” I knew I would get my period eventually and it took forever to come (I didn’t start until I was 13 – yeah, I’m a late bloomer).

My dad had picked me and my 3 sisters up for the weekend (my parents were divorced and my dad had us every other weekend). On the way to his house, we stopped at the florist. He asked me I would go in and pick up some flowers he had bought for my stepmom. I agreed and headed into the flower shop. I asked for flowers my dad had ordered and the cashier handed me a vase full of flowers with a card addressed to me. I immediately began to blush with surprise at the vase of flowers addressed to me (I thought they were for my stepmom?).

I opened the card and it read, “Congratulations on becoming a woman.” Oh my gosh – so embarassing! Sweet, but nonetheless embarassing. I knew from that moment on, my official “childhood” was over! My parents no longer saw me as a child, but rather as a young woman. And so it began πŸ™‚
