We recently started having our milk delivered – it actually started right before Sam was born. I was making a couple trips a week to the grocery store just to buy milk for our family – 2 gallons at a time.

Then I found out from some people at preschool and neighbors that they have their milk delivered. Hmmm….I thought…..that’s a good idea. However, I didn’t want to fork out the money for the price difference. We can buy 2 gallons of milk from Safeway for $5.80 now (I believe) and it cost $2.50 for half a gallon through the milk man.

A friend from church gave me half a gallon to try and we LOVED it! It tasted so much better than the store brand and was creamier – a definite quality difference. Their claim to fame also is that the milk is free from artificial growth hormones, such as rBST.

I decided that it WAS WORTH IT to have the milk delivered to our home twice a week. There was no way I was going to go to the grocery store for 2 gallons of milk with 3 kids under the age of 5. We signed up to have milk delivered twice a week and have loved it. We pay about $65.00 a month for 6 half gallons of milk and 1 quart of chocolate milk a week – that’s definitely doable.

We get the half gallon cardboard container of milk – there definitely is a difference in taste of the milks from the carton versus the plastic container

He leaves the milk in the morning in this cute little box that sits in front of our house all of the time. He then leaves an invoice once a month and mail him a check.

Look into milk delivery from a local farm near you. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!

Here’s an interesting fact:

Q. Is it true, milk in clear plastic containers is not as nutritional as milk in a paper carton?
A. Yes, scientific studies show that milk in clear plastic containers can lose a significant portion of vitamin A and riboflavin, destroyed by light exposure. Plastic containers also tend to give the milk a flat, oxidized flavor. Paper cartons block out 96% of the light with no flavor change. That’s why Smith Brothers packages your milk and dairy products in paper cartons. Your milk will retain more nutritional value and will taste better, too!

Yeah! I think that is great! We actually had the milk delivered when we were in high school to our house every week in Lakewood!
