Tonight, we were looking through the voter’s pamphlet for the elections taking place in Washington tomorrow. We vote absentee, which is recommended, in my opinion, for any stay-at-home mom who has a hard time traveling with her kids.

We were reading through the pamphlet and came upon the men who were running for U.S. Congressional District 7 Representative. The very first candidate is “Goodspaceguy Nelson.” I looked at George and said, “His parents were so mean to name him that.” We continued to read.

For his Family, it says: The life of Spaceship Earth is his family [okay….]

For Significant Career Experience, it says: Trying to understand the universe, Goodspaceguy became an amateur jack-of-all-trades and astronomer and economist and wants to advance rejuvenation and medical technology and wants tall buildings and more movies to be made in Washington [what in the world?]

Here is what his statement starts with:

“Goodspaceguy believes that the number one problem on Spaceship Earth [yes it actually says this] is the tripling of people during the last hundred years. We numerous, brainy humans are exterminating wilderness and wildlife. Instead of starvation, genocide, and war, we should use nicer methods (such as the head tax and birth fees and study and work and social security) to decrease the number of people boarding Spaceship Earth. Goodspaceguy is pro choice on almost everything [ok…that’s helpful?].”

He also has a blog: http://colonizespace.blogspot.com

In it, he adds the following:

“Goodspaceguy worries about nuclear war and the coming of the next killer asteroid and therefore wants us to spread life from Earth out into our solar system as quickly as possible. Instead of bringing most of the material up from Earth for the colonization, Goodspaceguy wants us to use a lot of material from the near Earth asteroids and comets to help build the coming orbital space colonies. Let’s follow the low-cost path to the Fantastic Future. ”

I thought it was a joke at first, but it wasn’t. He was actually on the ballot. It’s pretty scary who can actual run for a government office, isn’t it?

I don’t think a lot of people read those ballots. So yeah, Goodpaceguy could win!
